June 28 Worship from Home

Prayers and Reflections for June 28, 2020

[This may begin with the lighting of a Candle]

Call to Worship:

[Adapted from Christine Sine as found at http://godspace.wordpress.com/]

God who is One calls us to be one;
     may we be one with all who are made in God’s image.
God who is Three calls us to be community;
     may we find community with all who are called by God’s name.
God who calls us all Beloved;
     may find our place in God’s eternal family.

Opening Prayer:

[Adapted from http://liturgy.richardbott.com/]

Unblock our hearts, O God. Open our ears and our minds and our lives.

Widen our ideas and our beliefs. Stretch our hopes and our fears.

Open us to your Presence. Make us receptive to your Love.

Help us to welcome your Christ, so that we might be changed,

so that your creation might be changed.

Now, and in the days to come.

In Jesus’ name, we ask these things. Amen.

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession:

[Adapted from Stephen Fearing  as found at https://www.liturgylink.net/]

Creator God, you brought all life into being.

You shaped the whirling planets and stars, the fish and the birds.
You called to your family people of different colors, races, and creeds.
Help us to value the perspective of others.
     God of Welcome and Wonder, help us draw the circle wider.

Redeemer God, you walked this earth and changed our lives.
You brought freedom to the enslaved and salvation to the oppressed.
You called to your family people of different colors, races, and creeds.
Help us to welcome the truth that ALL people are worthy of love.
     God of Welcome and Wonder, help us draw the circle wider.

Sustaining God, who joins all of us together by your Spirit.
You brought unity to those who were divided by society.
You called to your family people of different passions, gifts, and voices.
Help us spread the news of your love  that all might be invited to its abundance.
     God of Welcome and Wonder, help us draw the circle wider.

Triune God, help us care for those who are in need:
for those who are alone this day,
for those who lack the resources to care for their loved ones,
for those who see no way out of the graves that surround them,
for those who want nothing more than a word of welcome,
and for those who need the gospel to sustain them for the coming week.
     God of Welcome and Wonder, help us draw the circle wider. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Words only, Voices United # 921

Sung Version, Voices United # 960 The Lord's Prayer (Langdon)

Closing

While we extinguish this candle,
we affirm that the light of Christ can never be put out.
May God’s love and grace be with us all.
Amen.
