May 24 Worship at Home

Prayers and Reflections for May 24, 2020

[This may begin with the lighting of a Candle]

Call to Worship:

[Adapted from Larry Doyle]

From wherever we are - at home, at work, in our cars:
God draws us in to give us hope.
In kitchens, bedrooms, offices and deck chairs:
Christ calls us to share in serving all of creation.
As households, in small groups, and on-line:
The Holy Spirit connects us to one another.
Surely God is in this place, and in this time!
      Help me notice!

Opening Prayer:

{ Adapted from Richard Bott as found at http://liturgy.richardbott.com]

Your presence is constant, God. We know you are with us.
But, sometimes, it’s hard.
Sometimes, in the midst of chaos,
we don’t know what to do, or to say, or to be.
Help us, please. Help us to stop and listen.
Help us to stop and look. Help us to be your people.
Now and always. Amen.

The 'Other' Lord's Prayer

Offering Prayer:

[Adapted from Seasons of the Spirit L/E/P 2014, page 186]

For all the gifts we have been given, O God, we give thanks:
the gift of your love, the gift of Jesus, the gift of life itself.
Help us, through all our gifts, to give praise to you
and to share your love with all the world.
In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession:

[Adapted from http://vicarofwadley.blogspot.ca/]

Jesus, just as you prayed for your disciples so long ago, pray for us.
Pray for our wellbeing; pray for our protection.
Pray for your joy to be made complete in us.
Pray for our spiritual growth.
Pray for your truth to be made complete in us.

Jesus, we often do not know how to pray.
So pray for us, pray with us, that we may be one with you,
one with each other, and one in ministry to the world.

Jesus, pray for your weak ones, your strong ones;
your ones who have illnesses, your ones near death;
your ones who breeze through life, your ones who struggle in life.

Jesus, pray for those who have lost loved ones
through war, famine, disease, and disaster.
Hold them in your loving arms, and use us to extend your compassion.

Jesus, we join you in these prayers for all your people. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Closing

While we extinguish this candle,
we affirm that the light of Christ can never be put out.
May God’s love and grace be with us all.
Amen.
